Chinese room in historic Dorset home
The client wanted to create a space that was reminiscent of the beautiful Chinese wallpapers imported in the 18th century and often seen in historical houses.
I drew on experience researching traditional techniques used in Chinese wallpaper.
Mulberry paper was applied in layers, with washes of paint added to evoke a sense of age. The imagery was inspired by original papers, such as those at Chatsworth and Belton House, featuring trees, flowers, birds, and butterflies.
